Short Stories I Want To Write
Aug. 27th, 2019 10:54 amI had a fun day hanging out with members of my writing group, and I got inspired to think about some short stories. For a long time, I have been working on a longer piece, but part of me has been itching to explore other stories. I'm putting these online to remind myself of these ideas and am curious to see which ones interest folks.
Science Fiction & Fantasy:
Library of Dead (essential concept is there is a library that exists between life and death; the stories are narrated by Em, one of the librarians who works there)
Memory Banks---A spaceship travels through space carrying a group of people who have escaped a chaotic and awful Earth. Many of the group lived through trauma and abuse, but they have been trying to raise the next generation in a loving way. Now, however, they are finally reaching the planet they will terraform, and they start running scenarios on how to set up the society. But they keep getting nightmarish scenarios.
Realistic (ish):
I've been thinking a bit about my fencing days. I was a competitive fencer in high school, and I competed in both local and national tournaments. Local tournaments were typically co-ed while national events were seperated by gender. Given that more people are identifying as neither male or female, I have to wonder how that will affect competitions that require folks of different genders to compete seperately. I want to explore how someone who didn't necessairly identify with their assigned gender would navigate a national tournament. My other idea is a Gravity Fallsesque fencing camp adventure. I haven't decided which one I like more.

- Two groups are in a competition to bring the full version of Mozart's Requiem to the living world, and the librarians have to figure out how they want to handle the flow of information between the two realms
- Em gets pulled back into the realm of the living after her sister has a near-death experience
- An individual comes and asks for information about someone close to them whose murder was never solved
- How Em became a librarian for the Library of the Dead
